Born on August 19, 1883 Gabrielle Bonheur other wise known as Coco Chanel is one of the largest fashion icons in the world. Looking at her past and childhood no one would of thought she would have been as prominent as she is in the fashion industry today.
When Coco was only six years old her mother died leaving it up to Coco’s father to raise all five children. Shortly after her mothers death Coco Chanel was sent to “the orphanage of the Catholic monastery of Aubazine”. Through out her years at the orphanage Coco learned to be a seamstress, the act that would change her life forever.
In 1910 Chanel selling only hats opened her first store in Paris on Rue Cambon. Later opening more stores Coco started to build the empire we all know as “CHANEL”. Ten years later she came out with her signature perfume “Chanel No.5” Coco once said that perfume “is the unseen, unforgettable, ultimate accessory of fashion. . . . that heralds your arrival and prolongs your departure,”
All Chanel designs are simply exquisite but there are a couple that have lasted since the beginning. When creating a line Coco wanted to have something poised, elegant, and comfortable for women, with that she came out with the legendary Chanel suit and little black dress. The Chanel suit being one of her most iconic pieces is widely sold. It features a tight fitted but yet comfortable skirt with a jacket that has no collar giving a new revolutionary universal look.
Coco has certainly created a name for her self-carrying her creativity and designs with her along the way. She and her designs are classic and timeless having made about 2.4 billion dollars since 2010 in revenue. She built an empire on her own out of nothing, preserving through the hard times even when she had to close one of her stores. Never giving up and always believing in her self, Coco Chanel is an inspiration to many everywhere.
